Special Response Team
Established in 1987, the Special Response Team (SRT) was formed for the purpose of handling potentially dangerous or life threatening situations which demand resources, weapons, and tactics that cannot be provided by patrol units. S.R.T. members are trained and skilled in the use of special weapons and tactics that are designed to reduce the risk of injury or death to law enforcement officers or innocent civilians, apprehend criminal elements, and bring about the safest resolution to any situation. The Special Response Team is employed for a variety of situations such as: Barricaded Subjects, Hostage Situations, Dignitary Protection and Executing Warrants. The Special Response Team has provided protection for the Dalai Lama, Heads of State, and the Super Bowl. The Special Response Team has executed over 425 warrants and responded to over 200 incidents involving various types of high-risk situations.
The Special Response Team consists of an Incident Commander (Major), S.R.T. Commander (Lieutenant), S.R.T. Supervisor (Sergeant), Team Leaders and a full compliment of members and snipers. The Special Response Team is complimented by the Crisis Response Team which is responsible for conducting all Hostage Negotiations.
